Information For Authors
Authors are invited to contribute to this journal. We would be grateful for original, high-quality academic texts in social and cultural anthropology and related fields that enrich knowledge in the field, broaden the range of information, and are original and previously unpublished. Before submitting a proposal for publication, please look at previous issues of the journal, the different sections to which papers may be proposed, and the citation and formatting rules that the journal maintains.
Submission Preparation Checklist
- Before submitting, authors check that they submit material for which they have copyright or permission to publish (especially photos, documents, and datasets). All authors on the submission must consent to be identified as an author. They will also ensure that the published text conforms to the ethical standards of their field.
- Please ensure the study design and research argument are adequately structured and articulated before submission. The title should be concise. An article or a study should contain an abstract and keywords. The abstract should be able to stand on its own. It will increase the likelihood of reviewers agreeing to review the paper. Before submitting the paper, please follow the checklist below.
- The text has not been published or is not currently being submitted to another journal.
- The file is in OpenOffice or Microsoft Word format.
- URL references are referenced wherever possible.
- The text has a simple spacing font size of 12 and is used rather italic and not underlined (except URL addresses). All tables and picture illustrations are placed in text rather than at the end of the article.
- The text corresponds to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements listed below.
- If the text is sent to the reviewed section of the journal, it will be anonymised before being sent to reviewers.
Editorial rules
All texts can be submitted via the editorial system or by contacting the editor-in-chief, who will place them in the editorial system. All submissions will be assessed by an editor to determine whether they meet the aims and scope of this journal. Before beginning the editorial process, the editor first reviews the manuscripts to determine whether they conform to the journal’s focus, the ethical standards of the field, and whether the submission is complete. An editor may reject a submission if it does not meet minimum quality standards. If the text requires the journal standards, start processing the text according to the rules of each section. Non-reviewed sections (editorials, reports, reviews, discussions, interviews) are reviewed and processed by the editorial office, while reviewed sections (articles and studies) are subject to peer review.
Peer review is double-blind. Peer reviewers assess an anonymised text, and the author is given recommendations to edit it so that it is not apparent who reviewed it. The editors select two peer reviewers who make recommendations for editing or may reject the manuscript. If one recommends acceptance of the text and the other rejection, the editors request a third review. If the manuscript is accepted, the author returns it to the editorial office after editing, which either judges whether the manuscript has been properly edited or may ask the peer reviewers to re-evaluate it.
Style guidelines
Texts in the peer-reviewed section of the journal should have a title of the text, the author’s name, and the author’s affiliation, abstract, and keywords. The text can be structured into subchapters with separate subtitles. Text in the peer-reviewed section has a list of references.
Reference Style
Cargo adheres to The Chicago Manual of Style 16th Edition, Author-Date References.
In this tutorial, we do not address all the examples. We highlight the most common appearances and slight differences we use in our texts. For more details, see http://www.chicagomanualofstyle.org.

Text citations concerning surrounding text and punctuation Recent literature has examined long-run price drifts following initial public offerings (Ritter 1991; Loughran and Ritter 1995), stock splits (Ikenberry, Rankine, and Stice 1996), seasoned equity offerings (Loughran and Ritter 1995), and equity repurchases (Ikenberry, Lakonishok, and Vermaelen 1995).
Fiorina et al. (2005) and Fischer and Hout (2006) reach more or less the same conclusions.
As Edward Tufte (2001: 139) points out, “A graphical element may carry data information and also perform a design function usually left to non-data-ink.”

Acknowledgements
Any acknowledgements should appear at the end of the first sentence, before notes and references. Cargo requires all Authors in receipt of funding to acknowledge their funding consistently under a separate heading. All research articles should have a funding acknowledgement in the form of a sentence as follows, with the funding agency written out in full, followed by the grant number in square brackets: “This work was supported by the XYZ Foundation [grant number xxx]”.
Permissions
Authors are responsible for obtaining copyright holders’ permission to reproduce any illustrations, tables, or figures previously published elsewhere.
After incorporating the comments, the editors ensure final language proofreading and layout for publishing of texts.
Journal contributor’s publishing agreement
Before publication, CASA requires the author as the rights holder to sign a Journal Contributor’s Publishing Agreement. CASA’s Journal Contributor’s Publishing Agreement is an exclusive licence agreement, which means that the author retains copyright in the work but grants CASA the sole and exclusive right and licence to publish for the full legal term of copyright. Exceptions may exist where an assignment of copyright is required or preferred by a proprietor other than CASA. In this case, the copyright in the work will be assigned from the author to the society.
Publishing texts in the Cargo journal is open access and free of charge.
Instructions for submitting contributions to the scientific journal Cargo
Please allow enough time, approximately 30 minutes, to insert your submission so that you can complete the entire process without interruption. We recommend that you do not use the “Save for Later” button as we have not had a good experience using it.
Login
To create a new submission, you must first log in to the journal system. Use your login details for secure access. In case you have never logged in before, click on the button in the top corner called “Register”, fill in the contact form and set a password. Please use the email address you usually use, as this is how the editorial team will communicate with you.
Navigation on the page
After logging in, you will be taken to the main page of the journal, where you can choose from three main sections: ‘“Current”, “Archives”, and “About”. These sections are located in the top left corner of the page. To make a submission, click on “About” and then select “Submissions”.
To make a new submission
In the “Submissions” section, select the first option “Make a New Submission”. This will take you to the page with the heading “Make a Submission”.
Make a Submission
On this introductory page, fill in the Title of your contribution. Next, in the “Section” field, select the format that corresponds best to the character of your contribution. Then, check your role as author and agree to the collection and storage of data by selecting the appropriate option. Click on the “Begin Submission” field to proceed to the following “Submission Details” page.
Submission Details
On the “Submission Details” page, add keywords, abstract and references. Add keywords individually and confirm each word or phrase with the Enter key. Copy the abstract and references from a text editor, preferably Word. If you use PDF format, you will be left with fixed spaces in the text and you will need to re-edit the text to align it. These items are optional. If your post does not contain this information, the fields can be left blank. However, if this information is included in the text, please pay due attention when filling it in. Once you have completed the necessary information, select the “Continue” option located in the bottom right corner.
Upload Files
Use the “Add File” option to upload your contribution. To the question “What kind of file is this?” next to the red triangle, click on “article text” (or “text článku“ in Czech) if relevant. If you need to upload more files, repeat the process by clicking “Add File”. You can insert files in different formats. We recommend PDF, but a Word file is also possible. Then click “Continue” again.
Contributors
Enter all contributors here using the “Add Contributor” option. It is necessary to fill in the data marked with an asterisk, i.e. name, email address and country of origin. In addition, you can add the last name (recommended), preferred public name, biographical statement (not necessary), affiliation (scope field, recommended), homepage URL (not necessary), and ORCID ID (not necessary). Indicate whether the contributor is an author or translator and specify whether the contributor wants to be identified in publication lists. Save the data using the “Save” button. If more than one contributor has participated in the work, add additional authors/translators and, if applicable, identify the main contact contributor using “Set Primary Contact”. If you need to edit the saved contributor information, use the “Edit” function. Once all contributors have been entered, use the “Continue” button.
For the Editors
On the next page, you can add detailed information for the editor, such as research funding sources, the language of the work, and key phrases or comments. Confirm each entry with the Enter key to save the data. This information is optional and not required by the editors.
Review and Submit
Please double-check all the information you have entered on this page. If you find an incorrect entry, you can go back and correct the mistake using the top menu bar that describes the steps. It is also possible that at this step, you will see a red-bordered box at the top of the screen alerting you to one or more unspecified problems. However, if no other red-bordered warning appears for a specific item below, everything is fine. If a bordered table with an exclamation point in a triangle appears for a specific item, you should correct the mistake by returning to the appropriate step using the top bar before submitting as instructed.
After checking all the data and fixing any problems, you can send your contribution to the editors using the “Submit” button. A confirmation table will appear to check if you really want to submit this text. After pressing “Submit” again, a rotating wheel will appear next to the button. At that point, you must close the table and press the submission button again. So please press the same “Submit” button again and reconfirm the submission. After successful submission, the table should disappear automatically, and your contribution is sent to the editors. Again, you may notice a red-bordered table at the top of the page announcing a statement about an unspecified problem, but please ignore it in this case. If you want to make sure you have successfully submitted your text, refresh the page, for example, by using the F5 key. The page will reload and provide you with information that the submission was successful.
Within a few days, the editors will contact you to ask whether the submission is complete and if the submission was placed in the reviewed section, the review process can be started.
